Group Health Insurance Michigan

Michigan state regulations provide that if you are eligible for group health insurance, you cannot be turned down or charged more because of a health problem or pre-existing condition. There are several life changing events relating to family problems, children, marriage, and job changes that can affect your opportunities for group health also. A new employer has the right to wait to offer health coverage.

If you have a pre-existing condition, a new insurance company can review your medical records for the last six months only, and apply an exclusion of that condition from coverage for varying times according to the type of Michigan group plan you have.

If you have maintained coverage of your pre-existing condition, without a break of more than 63 days, you are entitled to creditable coverage. Small Michigan businesses with two to 50 employees cannot be denied small group Michigan health insurance, nor can it be cancelled due to an illness within your employee group. Except through Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan, your premiums can be increased due to illness in your group.
